"The Drugs I Need," features five songs commissioned by consumer groups to crack on big, inviting targets such as the pharmaceutical industry, corporate media and predatory credit card companies, all the while maintaining the Lizards' well-known, front-porch wit and wisdom. It's Ralph Nader meets Grandpa Jones, by way of Tom Lehrer." - Wallace Baine, Santa Cruz Sentinel

In their 29 years together, the Austin Lounge Lizards have written many sarcastic odes to bumbling idiots and assorted other losers - the kind of characters vocalist/bassist Boo Resnick describes as "happily clueless." They've also concentrated on topics that don't have a limited shelf life, as current-event humor sometimes does.
But on album No. 10, "The Drugs I Need," the Lizards give some laughing tongue-lashes to more pointed subjects; they take aim at the president, drug conglomerates, the health insurance crisis, oil companies and even religion.
The Lizards' intricately layered harmonies and instrumental arrangements cover as much territory as their subject matter, which still includes the hapless, clueless and other assorted demons - literally. "The Neighbor of the Beast" is about the poor slob whose address is 667 - next door to the devil; "Wer Ist Da?" is their foray into a previously unexplored genre: German hip-hop. They also feature some special guests, including Tish Hinojosa and accordionist Joel Guzman.
For better or worse, the band is confident these slices of wit won't age prematurely. Says Resnick knowingly: "The topics that we've picked for these songs are all gonna be with us for a long time. Eric Hisaw live at Jovita's CD Release Posted by prop3 Thursday, 2008-July-03 Jovita's

"...a dust-choked collection cut from the same cloth as Springsteen's
Nebraska...there's beauty in Hisaw's desolate lyrics, weary vocals and
tastefully restrained fretwork, too, and it's a beauty born out of a real
pride of place. As bleak as the landscape is in these songs, Hisaw's not
singing about hell; he's singing about home."
Richard Skanse, Texas Music Magazine
"Bluecollar barroom country rock with a dark heart." Americana UK

On Nature of the Blues Eric Hisaw delivers his best album yet, picking up
where his widely acclaimed 2006 release The Crosses left off. The subtle and
poetic new disc finds it's greatest strength in classic new Hisaw
compositions like "Cheap Living", "Shout Out Loud", and "Tomorrow."
If all things musical seemingly grow on trees in Austin, serious songwriters
of Hisaw's caliber are not one of them. Timely and timeless themes alike
come to life in lyrics which are imbued with an ethereal optimism that
surmounts the wayward despair of his scenarios and characters. Nature of
the Blues eschews the quasi-70's outlaw country sound in favor of a modern,
bluesy-folk rock that will appeal to fans of Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely and
Tom Russell and features guest appearances by Ron Flynt, Ponty Bone and
"Scrappy" Jud Newcomb. New Alex Coke CD release "ITS POSSIBLE" August 19th/ Salvage Vanguard Theatre Posted by bebebobov Sunday, 2008-June-29 Exciting news!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday August 19th at the Salvage Vanguard Theater for the CD release.
