Partha Bose (Sitar) is accompanied by Gourisankar on Tabla. A widely acknowledged instrumentalist of the celebrated Maihar Gharana, Partha Bose has an uncanny ability to communicate with listeners world-wide through his Sitar. Venue: Jones Auditorium, Ragsdale Center, St.Edward's Univ. Tickets: $20 regular; $10 Seniors/Students; Free for ICMCA members Sreevidhya majored with a Master’s in music from University of Madras in 1988. She has served as a visiting artist at University of Washington (1993-95) and as artist-in-residence at University of Oregon in 2004. As an adjunct faculty at the Department of Music in University of Oregon, she teaches Music of India course. Her performance and teaching career spans over 25 years. She has performed in Asia, Europe and North America. She is a regular performer at the All India Radio and Indian Doordarshan (TV). Some of her prestigious concerts include performances at Festival of Saitanklange (Festival of Stringed Instruments, Museum für Völkerkunde & House of World Cultures, Germany, 1991), Long night of Indian Music for Sender Freies Berlin (Berlin Radio, 2001) and KIT Tropentheater, Netherlands (2003). Sreevidhya has won several awards and has a few recordings to her credit. She was featured along with her mother in the book The Singer & the Song: Conversations with women musicians by C.S. Lakshmi (published in 2000). Sreevidhya is featured traditional artist at the Library of Congress and Kennedy Center in the 2009 Homegrown Concert Series conducted in Washington, DC, USA. Sreevidhya pursues her interest in watercolor painting with Late Sri.S.Rajam, a renowned musician-scholar-painter from South India. Her paintings have been exhibited locally in the Pacific Northwest. Sreevidhya is a practicing veena melam builder (veena fretting). She has deepened her interest by conducting summer workshops on veena melam building in Portland, OR. In the summer of 2005, she collaborated with Brhaddhvani, a Research & Training center for Musics of the World at Chennai, India (www.brhaddhvani.org) on a project to make veena and tambura. Under this project, a group of her veena students from Pacific Northwest apprenticed under Sri.Natarajan, a traditional veena artisan at Brhaddhvani. Sreevidhya is a founding member of the non-profit organization Dhvani (www.dhvani.org) committed to the education, preservation and dissemination of arts of India. Through Dhvani, she brings community programs involving students and teachers of Indian music in the northwest and presents concerts and lecture-demonstrations by artists visiting from India.
