JAZZA: FOR THE LOVE OF GAZA, FOR THE LOVE OF JAZZ: A concert by Gilad Atzmon
Posted by alfar.gail   •   Thursday, 2010-July-01
Some of the best JAZZ music to ever emerge from Britain is heading over to Austin! Gilad Atzmon's album 'Exile' won the BBC award for best jazz album of the year in 2003; his latest CD is "In Loving Memory of America." Playing over 100 dates a year, he has been called "surely the hardest-gigging man in British jazz." Being a devoted political artist, Atzmon will inevitably intersperse his music with political commentary in a passionate yet entertaining manner. AUSTIN: Monday July 5th, 8:00 pm Monkeywrench Books, 110 East N. Loop Suggested donation: $5 Sponsored by Al-Awda Houston and Palestine Online Store Co-sponsored by International Socialist Organization, Austin Coalition for Peace and Justice For more info, call 832-660-6665. In conjunction with the Alliance Française D’Austin (Austin’s French Alliance), the French Legation Museum invites you to an exciting night of Franco-Texan fun in Central Austin.

The Alliance Française D’Austin is hosting its fifteenth annual Bastille Day Festival on Saturday, July 17, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Historic French Legation Museum at 802 San Marcos Street, just east of I-35. $8 advance tickets available online at afaustin.org; $10 at the door; children 12 and under are FREE.

Olivier Giraud and his band, Continental Graffiti, will entertain the crowd with retro French jazz alongside displays of all things French. Fine foods from Pascal’s Catering and Café Crepe, wine, and local beer will also be available at the event. All festival proceeds will benefit the Alliance Française D’Austin’s Frederique Moinard Scholarship Fund, which annually awards scholarships to area students. The French Legation Museum, under the custodianship of The Daughters of The Republic of Texas, will also hold a silent auction with original artwork, fine wines, weekend getaways, gift certificates to local restaurants and entertainment, museum memberships, and other fine items up for bid. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the historic French Legation.

The French Legation Museum is a non-profit historic house museum whose mission is to preserve the heritage of the French Legation of the Republic of Texas and to educate the public about Texas history and culture.

The Alliance Française d'Austin is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and develop knowledge of the French language and French and Francophone cultures, and to foster cultural, intellectual and artistic exchanges between the USA and France and French-speaking countries.
